I thought it was unintentionally funny and the guy was a nut.
Both of those statements are true, but the whole truth is much worse.

As fucked up and retarded as Scientology is, the religions that are embraced by our society aren't any less fucked up or ridiculous. Yes, Scientology is a rip-off designed to defraud the faithful. So is every other religion. Scientology is just more overt. Given them 2,000 years like the Catholic Church, and they will find more subtle ways of exploiting people.

The only difference between a cult and a religion is the number of people who have joined.

A Scientology recruiter has bought a Premium membership
Personally I can't wait to watch him (try to) recruit Dan.

Signing a contract to be in service of the Church of Scientology for one billion years. That's almost as bad as a mortgage!
Scientology is only slightly more extreme than the anti-science alternate reality espoused by mainstream conservatives, and Scientologists' obsession with attacking chemical psychiatry will be familiar to readers of curious2's posts.
Sadly, Scientology no longer seems extreme.
Wait a minute, Patrick gets a paying customer and you go all Daytime talkshow host on us?
Scientology recruiters are only interested in getting rich people to join, since you have to pay big bucks to move up in the ranks.
Woo hoo! 2900 dislikes, and their all from the same guy! Man, I love pissing off trolls!
A Scientology recruiter has bought a Premium membership to create a thread on PatNet. His first comment links to his Craig's List ad in Hong Kong (of all places). The ad itself is creepy enough to scare away most PatNetters, but just in case, it seems prudent to start a thread on the topic.
The new "Premium" User denies advertising Scientology but registered under the name of a Scientology author, and the Craig's List ad includes a picture of a Scientology book. The ad says:
"I am looking to help some young man from a very wealthy Asian family learn American culture and real estate opportunities for the family.
***
Right now an Asian Family very wealthy enough before it is too late, can pay that young man's transportation, get him a car (and papers) to live in Delaware, after we exchange pictures and particulars.
The many pictures are an important part of this story, be sure to look at them all and study well.
I can assist in many ways."
The full ad reads like a cult abduction scenario or worse.
