Officer Darren Wilson suffered facial fractures during his confrontation with deceased 18 year-old Michael Brown. Officer Wilson clearly feared for his life during the incident that led to the shooting death of Brown. This was after Michael Brown and his accomplice Dorian Johnson robbed a local Ferguson convenience store.

It is group think, it is the same with any riot. People in a group are not rational.

Same thing happened in LA in 92. You had a few gang members who got the riot going and the rest joined in.

Hell they did the same thing when the Lakers won.

It will last the same amount of time about 3 days.

The real irrational act is the police just standing by watching the rioters destroy everything in sight.

That part is not group think, that is a cop doing a quick tally then deciding he is out numbered. Maybe if he has a Custer mentality or an M35 it would be different.

It's beyond tragic that Americans are in uproar to the citizens of Ferguson reacting to police murdering a local kid with no repercussions. Yet those same Americans not only aren't speaking out against the fascist police state, they seem to be supporting their brutality. Bizarro world

First, they came for the Jews , and I said nothing, Because I'm not a Jew

Then, they came for the blacks, and I said nothing because I am not black

You really see it that way? Good mota Aunt B.

Don't get me wrong the police state is becoming more and more coercive, but not in this case. Or as much as the media would have you believe, with the Rodney King case

129   Blurtman   2014 Nov 25, 12:08am

If Brown did assault Wilson, and if there was a struggle for his gun, it wouldn't be unusual for Wilson to fear for his life. If Brown did charge Wilson after these events, lethal force is a likely outcome.

Up here in Washington state, cops kill folks who brush up against officers with their cars while fleeing, irrespective of color. That doesn't seem right at all. In these cases policy needs to change, but there have been no grand juries convened.

I agree on the dangers of the police state but it has nothing to do with racism. Minority cops in the bay area will tell you the same thing, they are simply more afraid in problem districts and they know the crime statistics by race. We could start breaking that cycle with drug legalization which then wouldn't get people in problem and socially poor areas into prison into the first place. It's a start, be practical about it. Screaming racism accomplishes nothing.

I doubt that. It would delay the inevitable looting by blacks.

137   Shaman   2014 Nov 25, 12:51am

This could have been avoided by a real trial. There are conflicting reports as to Brown's actions after the initial confrontation in the cop car. Those should have been sorted out by a jury of Wilson's peers. They would have been mostly black and the prosecutor feared that.

There wasn't enough evidence to support having a real trial! The preponderance of evidence supported the cop's story, and he was just doing his job. A grand jury just decides if there is a decent chance that the person is guilty of something. This jury decided that there was not. This is why people call you nuts, Gary. Because you believe blindly in things both unseen and contrary to evidence. So when you might actually have a point about something controversial, people just assume you're still wearing your tin hat. How can you expect to gain credibility when you seem to lack judgement?

Is this amount of retaliation to private citizens and businesses justified for the "murdering" of Brown?

IT's the wrong question. WOuld I be pissed if I were a member of the black community there ? Yes. Does it justify vandalism or violence ? Of course not. Are most of those punks out there dirt bags, yes, although most are probably kids, so that's a little harsh, but being kids doesn't excuse it.

This case is different than TRayvon Martin in that there were witnesses that saw what happened. Possibly (JUST POSSIBLY) the black community trusts the witnesses who back Johnson's story. He was there. My point being that in this case it may really be a travesty that there will be no trial, for at least 2nd degree murder.

But of course it doesn't justify the violence.

On a side note, I wonder how many businesses in Ferguson were burned down by their owners for the insurance money last night. Probably at least one or two of those.

141   marcus   2014 Nov 25, 1:06am

I'll add this. In the abstract I do see a kind of symmetry to this.

On the one hand, the message that the killing sends to the community is that citizens should be very cautious and comply with police, and do not fuck with the police, OR ELSE.

THe community answers back. Don't push your fucking police state attitude too far, OR ELSE.

142   Shaman   2014 Nov 25, 1:09am

What we saw last night in Ferguson is that we aren't far at all from chaos an anarchy. A few hundred people blocked the freeway in protest and while the cops were distracted, a few hundred others looted an burned the town. Anarchy means death in most times and places. People destroying their communities leads to them killing each other, leads to a complete breakdown of the social trust, and then you have every man or family or gang for themselves. It's impossible to have a functioning economy in such a situation. And cities of millions become death traps for all who reside therein. The only way to have a society like ours, a population like ours, is to have a perfectly tuned food and goods delivery system with an equally tuned economy. If the breaks down, 90-95% of everyone in cities would die within weeks.

This is why people look at ferguson and cheer the cops, because no cause, no petty racist claim, is greater than group survival.
Those idiots just made their town into a ghetto. Think the stores will rebuild and reopen? Many will not, taking the insurance money and getting out while the getting is good.
I expect that ferguson real estate will soon be as popular as Detroit, which is sad for the non black residents who didn't deserve this. My wife's friend lives there and is really sad and upset about all this. She can't understand how her town went from being a nice town to being a ghetto.

Certainly an incompetent cop is partly to blame. Will anybody be worrying about body cameras and more rigorous training for cops after this ?

In many places last night there were nonviolent fairly well behaved protests.

144   indigenous   2014 Nov 25, 1:14am

Yup as soon as the politicians quit with welfare payments in all of it's stripes, I suspect rioting will be quite common. Maybe a part of the weather report.

The mistake is not in having a big enough police force but with having this big of a government in the first place.

But, you know more then the Grand Jury....

I know that their finding was based on his (the cops) story. Along with the testimony of Josie, a family friend of WIlson's.

Look, courts accepting the cops side of the story is how it's always been, and that's probably necessary. But that doesn't help us when cops do wrong, and it ends up giving them too much power. WE need cops to have cameras on them, not just to get at the truth in these matters, but also so that cops watch themselves better, knowing they are being recorded.

How are you so stupid ? When you don't understand someone, that doesn't mean they are lying.

Yes, they looked at testimony and evidence, with the goal being basically to see if there is justifiable reason to not accept the cops story. They decided no.

Look, I'm not trying to say that I know Wilson's story is wrong. I'm just saying that I think he was incompetent in this situation. He unloaded 12 shots, at least 6 into brown, 2 into his head. I'll bet that in hindsight, even Wilson thinks maybe it would have been better to just risk letting the kid get away with stealing a swisher sweet, that is if backup didn't make it there in time. You've gotta pick your battles.

The cop fucked up. Even he wouldn't deny that.

What many people don't get is that if a cop did happen to shoot their ass, sitting in their Starbucks out in Rancho Affectation, the outcome for the cop would be the same.
Police are almost never criminally charged when they shoot someone. Of the last 150 shootings by the FBI, all were deemed "justified".
Because of Qualified Immunity they are also never at risk civilly, so when they pull the trigger their only real risk is some paid time off work or an early retirement.

Louis Head, Michael Brown's stepfather, has been arrested for inciting a riot. The DA says he will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. Head faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted.
Given that I also hear he had Brown's grandmother and other family members beat up for selling tshirts with Brown logos on them, this thug needs to go away.
