This news story is about how GM dealers aren't providing loaners for those recalled cars (which is pretty much every car they have, at this point). This is 'cause they have to pay for them on their own, and IMHO they're cheap assholes who own big houses and pay huge bonuses to salesmen who sell piece of shit cars but don't provide adequate service, and charge wayyyyyyyyyy too much for it. The owner of the local GM dealership if extremely wealthy, a shitty neighbor and a horrible employer. If he cared about any of his customers (rather than the almighty dollar), he would pay for loaners for those cars that are experiencing problems.

What they haven't told you is that once they have you in there, they intend to tell you everything that is potentially wrong with your car so you will bring it back in and let them fix it. Oh - and that even after they fix it, they'll recommend that you only use a single key because the cars are pieces of shit.

I have one of the recalled cars. I register with them and get the call about a month later that the parts are in. Over the phone they tell me it will take about four hours to fix. When I get there they have me sign one of those long, long service authorizations. On it they tell me that they'll be performing a quality check and the service advisor tells me that they've caught some serious conditions while fixing the recalled parts.

I explained to the dealer service rep that I don't give a shit about what they say, the only reason I'm there is because of the recall and I wouldn't let them touch my car if they paid me, due to the shitty service they've provided on past recalls and warranty work. I tell him not to bother telling me what they think is wrong, because pretty much everything is wrong with the piece of shit car and I will never buy another GM product again. And that if their diagnostic skills are of the same quality as that past work, they can go fuck themselves.

In & out in 45 minutes. Yay!

You are one heck of a gal, Ellie. I would hate to cut you off on the freeway.

That would be a wise choice

What's good for GM is good for 'Murica!

Anyone who says otherwise is a Pinko Commie and should shut up or move to Cuba.

My uncle swears by GM. He's quite pleased with his Volt.

What's your ride Ellie?

Are you sure it's not swears "AT" GM?

The right thing to do would be to - Swear by the Volt, and swear AT GM at the same time.
It's a Volt, not a car.

Summary:

GM still makes shitty cars, and while they have ostensibly recovered from the cluster-doodle of 2009, they still can't pay for loaner cars for everyone affected by a current recalls. And Eliemae is surprised/really pissed about all of this.

I guess I'm not so sure it is their responsibility to pay for a rental car for me. I sure didn't get a rental car when my VW gas tank recall was serviced.

My only experience with GM was a Saab 9-3. It was only a lease though. Thank God.

I think they should but apologies to OP when you buy merican you know you are going to be in the shop for more than just recalls

There are cars on the road that shut off while driving, leaving the driver with no steering, braking or airbags. GM saved several pennies by not fixing the cars to begin with, and now they obviously believe it's worth the payments that they'll have to make to the families of the deceased rather than to remove those cars off the road immediately.

I'm one of those drivers that, when I'm cut off, I smile & wave.

Fork over the dough for a luxury import and you'll get your loaner.

Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti give out loaners.

Fwiw, I haven't taken my Infiniti to the stealership for anything since I've been out of warranty. I've done it myself or I've taken it to a former Infiniti Master Mechanic who opened his own shop and charges roughly a third of what the stealership charges.

So no loaners for me either.

Probably that to when the occasion calls for it

They aren't going to fix it. they are going to provide you with something that separates your ignition key from the rest of your keys, so that you can easily remove them when you are driving your car. The recall even states this. This IS NOT A FIX!!! It's a workaround. I am still deciding to bring in my car. Since it's not a real fix, I will not need a loaner, since it should take maybe one whole minute for them to hand me this key chain separator.

I wish I were kidding, but I am not.

From my recall notice:
"Your GM dealer will install two key rings and an insert into the key slot or cover over the head of all ignition keys."

When I have more time I can upload the picture, but they are not fixing the ignition switch. They are doing something with the key ring. Because actually fixing the car would be harder and cost more money.

Having said all of that, how often does a 1999 car actually get included on a recall???

In so far as using it as an excuse to potentially find other things wrong with my 1999 Alero, they won't. It's nearly in mint condition and just hit the 41,000 mile mark.

And when, to cool an overheating engine, you would just crank open the heat on a hot day and keep driving?

Want a loaner - buy a luxury brand.

16   elliemae   2014 Sep 16, 4:14am

They replaced the ignition. Gave me two keys, told me to use a single key when driving.

I had a dream last night that my car was driving and the key came out. I woke up not happy. I blame patnet and intend to sue the person with the deepest pockets on this forum.

It would help if someone would just tell me how much they're worth so I would know who to sue. Subpoenaing over 15k people would take awhile and I have a very short attention span.

There are a lot of very "wealthy" people on this forum. Just like any internet forum, the loudest are probably compensating, so beware!

I've had none of the above.... Hell my ride didn't even have a roof or real doors!
