Yesterday former Bill Clinton advisor Dick Morris told radio host on New York's AM 970 that he believes the "blue wave" that Democrats are expecting to give them back the Senate and House will not materialize, and polling has backed him up.

Last week, CNN's mid term poll showed that Democrats only had a 3 point advantage, well within the margin of error, and considering that CNN is known for "oversampling" Democrats in its own polls, this is troubling for the DNC.

Additionally, a recent poll from Reuters (left leaning) has shown that Millennials are leaving the Democrat party in droves. Democrat membership in the 18-34 demographic (the bread and butter of the DNC) dropped 9% over the past 2 years, most of them becoming "independents".

"I think that [Democrats] see fool’s gold in these scandals," Morris said. "They’re putting everything behind the Stormy Daniels scandal and Michael Cohen … and the country doesn’t give a damn."

That's when Morris dropped his prediction.

"There is no blue wave coming," Morris exclaimed. "There is a red wave. And what makes it red is the blood of the Democratic Party."

Here's my official take. I believe the GOP will LOSE seats in the house but will not give it up to the DNC. I believe the GOP will GAIN seats in the senate, keeping their majority. This will mean that Trump will have both houses of congress for his entire term.

It has everything to do with Trump

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. From my seat it sure looks like Trump LOVES to play the victim and that's his schtick every time he's criticized. And it works as so many people eat it up and blame the media. It's almost pointless for the media to continue to point out his lies, because his followers don't care.

Because when the media “point out his lies” they either:
1) nitpick the details offering differences in statistics from other data sources, then declare the statement a lie based on differing opinions
2) deny deny deny a truth Trump is pointing out, only to be quietly proven wrong six months later.
3) quibble over hyperbole where trump makes a slight exaggeration.

None of these types of “lies” changes any material fact that matters to Trump supporters. That’s why we don’t care about the media spin.

No, most of the time they are outright naked lies where Trump is either just making things up out of thin air, or purposely misstating facts.
407   curious2   2018 Oct 21, 5:52pm

President Trump is not on the ballot in the midterm. If you look at the 2016 ballot, the most honest candidates were Bernie (who got robbed) and Gary (who got 4%). In the general election, 96% of the voters chose liars. President Obama said, "All politicians lie." If Democrats' midterm strategy is to say the President lied, that seems unlikely to produce a better result than in 2016, when Democrats lost both houses of Congress.

Another thing factcheckers do is claim "We don't have the time to factcheck everything"

So they take less controversial or more fungible statements from political candidates they support, contextualize them to the hilt, and declare them mostly true 25 of 30 times.
With the ones they don't like, they do the opposite, pick out the most controversial claims, take the literal meaning whenever, and don't contextualize them at all. False 25 of 30 times.

Nope. It's apples and oranges.

Torturing and killing a journalist and then cutting him up with a bone saw in your Consulate after he came on the promise of getting papers so he could obtain a marriage license is simply nothing like your whataboutisms.

That's why there is outrage. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Trump. The outcry began before Trump even commented on it.

Bonk! Khashoggi was not a journalist or reporter in the mold of Edward Murrow. He was an "Accountability Journalist" aka Opinion Writer, and a Media Adviser for the Saudi Intel Chief in the 90s.

And just about every country in the world has turned the other way when Iran and Saudi Arabia has executed multiple gays and witches. CNN and WaPo hardly gave a fuck. The very rare report and even rarer op-ed on the need for "Reform" without any calls for a massive embargo or cancellation of any weapons deals, much less resignations of Leaders.

I know DC elites think one Islamist Shill is more than scores of gays, "Witches", and protesters, but I don't agree.

The attitude has shifted 180 degrees.

I see--unless you're Edward Murrow, it's fair game for Governments to lure you to their Consulate, murder you, and cut you up with a bonesaw?

Is that how it works?

lol--so are you the ultimate decider of who is and who isn't a journalist?

Yes. I am not letting the shills at the Washington Post and the Eye-rollers at CNN, who don't understand the world half as well as most people on this forum, tell me a shill is a journalist.

Khashoggi is more a shill for political Islam than Pilger is for Socialism or Dnesh D'Souza for Republicans. Pilger didn't work as Media Adviser for Fidel Castro for years, like Khashoggi did for Prince Turki the enabler of Wahabi Terror.

The day of granting some journalist automatic authority because they were raised on Martha's Vineyard or Setauket or the OC and have a bachelor's in IR or Journalism from Georgetown is over.

So, just curious--why isn't Saudi showing the world all this supposed evidence of Khashoggi's terrorism ties? Or even better, why didn't they arrest him and charge him like civilized countries do?

Those ties implicate other Saudis, including royal Saudis. Saudi barbaria didn't do what you claim "civilized" countries do for the obvious reason that it is Saudi barbaria.

It is, it's all over the place. WaPo and Buzzfeed have been flipping out over "Saudi Bots" now.

No country is monochrome.

There are Islamist sympathizers among the highest reaches of Saudis with all kinds of variants, from replacing the Monarchy with a Theocratic Republic based on Shar'ia, to simply advancing "True Islam", to those who want the troublemakers to go away, spread Islam, and leave the Monarchy alone.

There are also liberalizers, who need to go really slow because about half the country wants MORE Islam, not less.

Every generation or two swings back and forth. To Khashoggi and bin Talal's generation, Political Islamism was the going thing.

Today, more and more young Saudis want liberalization. But a large chunk of those aged 50+ want more Islam. They want MbS Out, Out, Out.

Lol-liberals are weird. They suddenly wake up and act like Saudis are the beacon of civilization. Saudis have been torturing and killing their dissidents for quite a while now. That they elt his fiancé go is surprising. They don't put a fake act-they want to make an example. I mean the incredulousness of liberals-LOl! They hang people in the streets and crowds bring their families to watch the "entertainment". What changed? Oh find some way to link to trump-yup-.

Now if you are calling for reform of Saudi and all Muslim nations for that matter-I agree-but no muslims them be good-except if w ecan pin something on trump when muslims be Muslims.

After I get the answer (including from Bob) as to why Obama didn't sanction SA, allowed the Iran Deal, given their many multitudes of executions and tortures of Gays, "Witches", and teenage protesters. And why Turkey got no sanctions after Erdogan went on a Journalist Jailing crusade and became the #1 incarceration state for journalists.

The reason is I know You and Bob will continue to refuse to answer, but nitpick my answer and soak up all the oxygen. And no, that's not personal, just me explaining why y'all go first (on top of which I asked first).

The race for the House is over.... Repubs hold control!

Nate Silver is claiming that there's a 86% chance they take control, with Dems gaining 40+ seats.. We all know how well Nate did on his last prediction, right?

Meanwhile, Bernie is saying it will be really close, with only a few seats making the difference.

So, who do you believe?

Gotta defeat the lefty teachers in Broward.
430   MisdemeanorRebel   2018 Oct 30, 1:31pm

There's no Blue Wave, Dems might not even take the House.

Republicans are too energized; Wave Elections usually require that one party's base be demoralized and angry with their own party. Trump is YUGE with Republicans and he's been absolutely Hi NRG pumping up voters in key districts with rallies.

Obama can barely get a few hundred despite AFSCME pushing members to go.
431   krc   2018 Oct 30, 2:21pm

A political party that lets the opposition outspend it 2:1 will lose. I was thinking Rep would hold the house - but not so sure anymore. There is too much money getting spent and clearly the Rep party thinks they are going to lose so they are not investing. I don't see local Republicans out canvassing or doing the grass roots stuff to win. The Dems just need to make the blue states more blue to control the house. Then Trump will be drowned in investigations and so forth....

JUST got a call from the Broward GOP literally an hour ago telling me to go vote. I just got my ballot today.

My mother told me was visited by door knocking GOP volunteers in her Senior Community the other day; she voted long ago.

There's a ground game in FL, at least. Even in Communist Teacher Driven Broward.

Democrats outspent Republicans 2:1 in 2016, and Republicans won both houses of Congress and the White House, and retained control of most states at the state level. Democrats have never recovered from their losses in 2010, when they forced through Obamneycare just in time for the midterms and the 2010 census reapportionment. I have never seen a more obviously self-defeating party. It is almost as if they are controlled by the people who finance the Republicans. Oh wait, they are.

I wouldn't be so sure about the house.

The early voting numbers don't look good for the DNC at all in the battleground states.

Now early voting numbers aren't the entire picture but they do indicate 3 crucial things:

1. Voter Enthusiasm.
2. Where money should be spent.
3. Potential turn out.

So far it looks like the GOP is far more fired up in the key battleground states than the DNC base and the DNC will be forced to spend more money just to keep it close in those races.
435   krc   2018 Oct 30, 3:37pm

There are 6 seats in CA that have a solid potential ( based on polling and $ spent) to flip REP to DEM.
There is one in WA.
But we shall see. My point is the battlegrounds don't really matter because there are so many toss-ups in traditionally Blue states that they just have to win those.
It is a good plan: focus on where you are strongest.

Ha no.

Between the Gas Tax, and Feinstein, I don't see those seats flipping. In fact the one California senate seat that was up for grabs this year in a special election actually flipped GOP ending the Democrat super majority in California (that was just 4 months ago). I know, different kind of race, but it shows just how unpopular the gas tax was, and Democrats hold the entirety of the blame for it in California.
