This is your opinion and there are some valid points like why are some countries included and some aren't, but to link to an opinion piece that then goes on to say the decision is a mistake is asinine (not you, but that piece). It is completely irrelevant how effective the list of countries is - and it is definitely somewhat effective - there could be Germany or Mongolia on the list, but the decision of the SCOTUS was obviously correct as it has nothing to do with religious discrimination and banning countries has always been in the power of the POTUS and been used by presidents of either party. Not really that hard to grok unless you are rabid Anti-Trump and can't think logically.
Four countries are noticeably missing from that list: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. They're located in the same region as the countries subject to the ban and they're home to large Muslim populations. They also have something else in common: They all do business with Trump.
If the president was as dedicated to national security as he suggests, it would be logical for his list of banned countries to look a little different. After all, 15 of the 19 hijackers involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, were from Saudi Arabia. Two of them were from the U.A.E., and one was from Egypt. More recent attacks in the U.S. haven't involved immigrants from any of the countries on Trump's list.

SCOTUS is not there to grade the effectiveness of POTUS policies but to step in when POTUS overreaches wrt to his power, no matter if they consider it a good or bad overreach. This is clearly within the constitutional limits.

In the 5-4 opinion penned by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court found that Trump's immigration restriction fell "squarely" within the president's authority. The court rejected claims that the ban was motivated by religious hostility.
"The [order] is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices," Roberts wrote. "The text says nothing about religion."
