Four countries are noticeably missing from that list: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. They're located in the same region as the countries subject to the ban and they're home to large Muslim populations. They also have something else in common: They all do business with Trump.
If the president was as dedicated to national security as he suggests, it would be logical for his list of banned countries to look a little different. After all, 15 of the 19 hijackers involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, were from Saudi Arabia. Two of them were from the U.A.E., and one was from Egypt. More recent attacks in the U.S. haven't involved immigrants from any of the countries on Trump's list.

Why is it completely irrelevant how effective the list of countries is ?
This is your opinion and there are some valid points like why are some countries included and some aren't, but to link to an opinion piece that then goes on to say the decision is a mistake is asinine (not you, but that piece).
When all else fails, wrap it in the flag, lie like hell and say it's for national security.
That’s the point. Muslims are incompatible with our American way of life. They should all be banned. Vermin
it's NOT a Muslim ban

In the 5-4 opinion penned by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court found that Trump's immigration restriction fell "squarely" within the president's authority. The court rejected claims that the ban was motivated by religious hostility.
"The [order] is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices," Roberts wrote. "The text says nothing about religion."
