I tried to find out what that "stranger Thing's guy was saying. Noteworthy that they cut the second half of the sentence off in that video, even though they play it several times. I never denied that there are people out there to be afraid of if you advertise your love of Trump. In San FRancisco possibly the most liberal city in the country it's probably about 2% of the people that might give you a hard time, 1% or so that might vandalize a car with a MAGA sticker - mostly children, 0.3% that would do something physical such as spit on, push, threaten you for having a maga cap, and then something less than .1 % (1 in 1000) that would actually beat you up for having a MAGA cap.

So no patrick I would not be afraid to wear it out of fear of violence. I never was that much of a pussy. That is except for in neighborhoods that I wouldn't be in even without a MAGA cap, where there is too high a chance of getting messed with anyway.

There are many other examples, including homicides. Most violent hate crimes tend to be perpetrated by racist and/or anti-gay assailants. These are no longer usually endorsed by the "right," although we do see calls to obscure the data by no longer tracking such crimes or responding to them as a specific category.

A century ago, or even 50 years ago, hate crimes including homicides (e.g. lynching) in the southeastern USA committed by the "right" were often enabled or at least tolerated by local police and mayors, who may themselves have been members of the KKK. That has changed. Since 2015, in California, local police and mayors in San Jose and Berkeley have tolerated violence by AntiFa against Trump supporters. In 2015-17, arsons of black churches tended to be perpetrated by parishioners or ministers wanting the insurance money.
