I’ve experienced that as well, but only at the State Parks campgrounds. Go to a private campground or KOA and you will have a much better experience. I know the State locked up the best locations, but there are some really nice ones in private hands!
Best experience hands down was Ventana in Big Sur. Shady grounds with large spaces plenty of room, nice bathrooms and showers, surrounded by massive redwoods, and you can have campfires. Very relaxing, and only 3 miles from Pfieffer Beach with the purple sand!

Celebrated the 4th with my family and parents who are in town. Cooked and ate outside with high around 105, sitting under a fan. Yes, in Phoenix an outside fan and covered porch are standard. Was a bit warm, but not too bad. I guess that's what they mean by dry heat. Also set off some fireworks which are legal in Arizona. They only allow fountains, but when the fountain is the size of your head, it packs a punch. Brought back memories of when we used to light m80's in Michigan. Good times!

So after the rent going up two years in a row a total of $270, we're leaving, again, this time for Yuma. Moving into the the biggest house we've ever rented, pool, nice yard, and yes, still renting. For anyone interested the rent will remain under 25% of my net income. We've done the day drive to Yuma, it's not bad at all, so unlike the Phoenix move, will be back more frequently, especially over the summer to get out to the beach and away from the heat. Also, with the school voucher's, we may be able to send our daughter to Catholic school for free.

Considered Florida as I have family there, but decided we may have missed our chance, at least until our daughter finishes high school. Although by that time, good chance we will take off for the South Pacific, the only perfect place on earth.

Move is almost here after a very strange journey through Yuma RE. We had three deposits returned because people never sent us the lease, and we kept finding better deals. Our final property is a 4bd 2.5bth, 2,300sqft, with good sized yard with grass, huge pool, for only $230 more than what we paid for a 2/2 apt in East San Diego. And it's at least two miles from any field, very important for protecting ourselves from pesticide drift, as Yuma is a very agricultural community.

Good luck with that. If you have neighbors they're probably spraying their lawns with all sorts of chemicals. Or is it generally desert landscaping with no grass? I haven't been to Yuma since I was a kid and just drove through. Realtor.com it looks like a mix of grass and desert.

Here in IL everyone treats their lawn with chemicals. I don't, but most do. My lawn looks just as good so I say fuck it. We have a top notch backyard setup since it's from 1963 with gardening, large trees, and tons of plants. I'm going to miss it. Starting the construction loan process today. Fingers crossed. Construction prices are still rough, but not as bad.

Have fun at the new place. I hate moving, but you're probably more experienced with it. Do you have to maintain the pool? Or have you done it? A lot of systems are automated so you don't have to do much or maybe your landlord pays a pool person to take care of it. If it's on you to manage and you haven't done it, either hire someone or research. It can be a pain in the ass if it gets out of hand or you don't know the system. My 2¢. Sun and high temps can make the water go south quick if something messes up.

I would leave if I were any of you or move to a nice rural pocket in state. And I mean rural. The outflow even if it's not rapid is going decimate use and income taxes. We all know government increases the budget even if they shouldn't. So they raise more taxes and fees which hit lower and middle class people hardest. More people being priced into homelessness.

When you get people making ten's of millions a year leaving it adds up quickly. Then factor in your doctors, nurses, teacher, etc, basically in demand type jobs, you could find a job anywhere in the country for a similar pay at a lower cost of living.

Wife and I just completed a multiweek western states road trip.

I’m over 50, wife is several years younger. While we are intending to move out of state when I retire, this trip prompted a few things. First if we were ever to have custody of our godchild, we nearly immediately would move, most likely to Utah. Wife liked Montana and Idaho better, but I can’t work at manual labor and I don’t think I can handle the winters. Second, we visited some truly rural family friends. Like miles and miles of roads to get to the dirt roads where it’s more miles to their residence. Wife for the first time gained real understanding of that lifestyle. Third, as I remember from childhood vacations, basically everyone is nice…really nice. It’s rather incredible the emotional and physical shields you develop living in a big city. One this trip I turned from a very introverted person into a borderline extrovert. Genuinely interested in what others say, I stopped a couple times for people broken down to make sure they had assistance on the way. I don’t initiate conversations in my normal life, but did multiple times on this trip if nothing more than to compliment someone’s business or residence. Fuck California. I’d move tommorow if I could.

Recently while on Hawaii, was thinking that Hawaiians people must be sad that lgbt choose Hawaiian symbol on their flag.

I will be back many weekends. All the advantages of California with none of the bullshit.

So been a few weeks since the move wanted to share some insights. First of all, always hire movers. It's been probably 10 years since we did it all ourselves, and it was rough. It is worth it to spend the money, just be ready to document missing and damaged items, it will happen.

The other thing that we agreed on shortly after arriving, we should have left San Diego sooner. And I mean like at least 15 years ago. We're just over 2 hours from SD now, but we have three times the square footage, a HUGE pool, grass that's starting to grow back, a full size trampoline, an outside bar, two car garage. I no longer work out of my bedroom, gas is $1 less a gallon. No traffic, good private school that we don't have to pay for. If we had moved 15 years ago, we'd own a home by now, and I mean no mortgage, and probably nicer than the one we're in.
It's been hot more than a few days, over 115, but it's honestly not that bad. Seemed worse the first time around in Glendale(Phoenix area). We could have lived a lifestyle commensurate to my earnings this entire time. But we didn't want to move back then.

Just glad we're here now...
