Fact Check: Kamala Harris Says Trump Economy ‘Not Working for Working People’

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) said Thursday night that the Trump economy is “not working for working people” and cited the GOP tax cuts, despite the fact that the cuts helped vastly two-thirds of the American taxpayers and led to historic economic growth across the board.

Unfortunately, many Americans remain utterly unaware that they experienced a tax break:

Yet far from celebrating their lower tax bills as they prepared to file for the April 15th deadline, many Americans remain convinced they got no tax cut at all—or even that their
taxes went up. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll in April showed that just 17 percent of Americans believe their taxes have been cut. A shocking 28 percent say they believe
their taxes went up. Other surveys have consistently found that less than one-third of Americans think they got a tax cut.

America is also seeing benefits from the Trump economy in other ways. A number of businesses announced investments in the U.S. following the passage of the tax cuts. In January 2018, Exxon Mobil announced a $50 billion investment in the American economy, citing the GOP’s tax bill.

“These investments are underpinned by the unique strengths of our company and enhanced by the historic tax reform recently signed into law,” Exxon CEO Darren Woods
wrote. “These positive developments will mean more jobs and economic expansion across the United States in a myriad of industries.”

A 'working girl' would know.

Kamala and her ilk are ignorant.

If she cared about "working people" in the USA, why does she support open borders and the influx of more illegal workers? More illegal workers here hurts American workers.

Supply and demand applies to labor; more labor supply drives down wages.

Kamala: "You put that free shit vibe out, and our stoopidz base can't even tell we are claiming to help them on one hand while stabbing them in the back on the other!"

If Trump was a tool of Wall Street he would be for open borders and no tariffs on China. Try again.

She is right that economy is not working for working people. She is wrong, however, by implying that it is "trump" economy that is not working. The economy was not working for "working people" under Clinton, Bush, Obama, and now tRUMP..perhaps something other than Trump is the problem...

Disagree tremendously. If you aren’t hustling and making hay right now, you never will. Want a job? There’s one immediately available anywhere. If you choose to stay in an expensive shithole in California, or a poor shithole in Mississippi, that’s solely on you.

Yeah, Obama was so deep in Wall Street's pocket he had Podesta clearing his nominees with Michael Froman, a Citigroup Executive who introduced Obama to Mr. Big Bank Reform (sic) Robert Rubin

https://steemit.com/politics/@fortified/citibank-or-how-one-bank-picked-the-obama-administration

Later, Froman became an Obama National Economic Council AND National Security Adviser, helped negotiate the secretive Trans Pacific Partnership in a total blackbox as USTR, and in 2017 was appointed to the Council on Foreign Relations, which is in no way a neoliberal global corporate crony institution.

He currently is a Veep at Mastercard and a Disney Board Member.

Not to mention Eric Holder, whose prosecutions of Financial Institutions hit 20-year LOWS in the aftermath of the financial crisis. Keep in Mind the "W" Admin prosecuted more people at big businesses - like HSBC and Enron - than Mr. Democrat Man of the PEEEEPLE Eric Holder under Obama.

Since 47% of Americans pay no federal income tax, but do pay sales and property taxes as well as local fees and fines, most people in the country did get a tax increase as the state and local governments increased these taxes and fees. Slanted polls saying the people don't know what is really going on is just "fake news".

I disagree tremendously with you. Not saying that FREE! handouts are a solution, but: 1. not everyone has IQ of 120. 2. not everyone can code and/or run their own business due to #1. 3. there is a large, part of population that can perform simple tasks diligently, but are not intelligent enough for anything else. These people are fucked - 30-40 yrs ago they could work at a factory, get decent salary, and lead a good life - have house, family, and so on. What now? Work at McDonalds at $8/hr and no benefits? Should we declare that most of small-town PA and OH are fuckwits because they can't find jobs and are popping painkillers because life is not worth living? What should they do - "learn to code"?
I think the biggest problem since 1990's is cheap money, so that zombie large corporations could stay afloat and everything got centralized. If zombie corps would have died off, perhaps there would be enough small businesses in those small towns who could employ people who now have no options.

Unchecked compassionate immigration will resolve all these problems and difficulties.

You are dead wrong and so is anyone with that attitude. Evidence is my step daughter who at 16 took an $8 an hour job at Subway, outperformed 30 year olds, and was asked to be a shift manager 6 months into the job. She of course declined but wound up doing most of the functional anyway because all the adults were horribly irresponsible. At 18 she applied to subway and started at $13 an hour along with a 401k and heath benefits. At 20 promoted to shift supervisor and $17+ an hour. Now if she would actually take advantage of their online degree program(she’s started and stoped twice), she would really be getting somewhere.

My initial point remains. The people you are talking about would have been fired from the factory job. If you aren’t doing well in this economy, it’s entirely your own fault.

So 30% of rural/small town PA, OH are useless people?
Your daughter probably has an IQ that is much higher than median. What should people who have IQ lower than median do? Self-immolate? Work for $/8 hr for rest of their life?
And yes, these people were fired from factory jobs. Problem is that there are no more sufficient numbers of such jobs available.

Edit: these type of jobs do exist in TX - but if 1/3 of PA and OH move here, they will become scarce and poorly paid. Also, we do not need any damned Yankees down here...

IQ has nothing to do with it. Taking the crap shifts and doing the work her boss needs done that no one wants to do, and caring about the product she is serving to customers is what did it.

You know, it’s funny...she’s a die hard socialist Democrat despite seeing exactly what individual hard work does for a person. Maybe she’ll open her eyes at some point.

Let's see...there is working hard and saving up money vs already being rich and owning assets such as stocks. With the Trump tax cuts for the working people, it amounted to a very little amount. This was mostly mitigated by an increase in state and local taxes. Meanwhile for stock holders, the tax reduction increased the earning of the corporations. This led to a nice increase in share price without any meaningful increase in sales. This increase in share value exceeded $1 trillion, for the already richest members of society and this was money that they did not have to work for. It was a present from the government to the already rich. I am surprised that out currency has any value left at all.

Why would lower federal taxes cause local taxes to increase? They are not related. Did states do a money grab on the tax savings of the working people?

It’s a gender thing. Women are evolved to spread the wealth and make sure everyone has enough. Men are evolved to conquer and make stuff and provide for their families. They could give a shit about lazy fucks who don’t want to work for their own living. Socialism is attractive to women, and also to lazy men.
