Is it real? I don't live there anymore but I've received mixed reports from people I know who still live there.

Obviously with a demographic like that, it makes sense to charge the illegals for reparations to the African Americans.

Ca exodus is a farce.

Sure people are leaving. But plenty are coming as housing prices show.

We'll see as California's population growth is trending lower for the last few years, even with its economy doing very well. It is projected to only grow from 40 million to 45 million over the next 30 years.

Sweet, so when do “white” people get minority privileges, entitlements, and hand-outs? Should not Latinx people be vilified and de-considered in what makes workplaces/communities/committees/institutions diverse as they are now the majority in CA and that’s essentially been what has happened to “white” people for the whole diversity push?

Taxes are probably $10K a year or more.

Holy crap. I looked up that place on zillow. $12k/year.

That's child's play in IL. $800K valued house in IL would run you close to $20k/yr in property taxes depending on location. I'd gladly purchase an $800k house in TX and pay no income taxes, but dish out $12k/yr for property taxes. I pay a little over $10k in income taxes in IL. Moving to TX would be a massive savings for most from IL for sure.

I got lucky and bought at the right time and my taxes are $3,300/yr after appealing. So not moving anytime soon. You know that look you get when you can tell someone is mentally giving you the middle finger? Yeah, that's what I get from my neighbors. I live in a small town and most houses sell for $200-$350k. Outside of seniors, I don't know a single person in town paying under $6k/yr. Some are at $10-12k/yr on a $350k value and size around 2,600SF.

IL will continue to lose population from higher income earners. Not that hard for us to get the same paying job elsewhere in the country either. Moving to a no income tax state alone would probably cover the moving costs in a year without having to pay income taxes. And now IL is trying to pass a constitutional amendment to allow for a graduated income tax. Marketing it as saying only those over $250k of income will be affected. It's bullshit. It's like they're wantonly pushing out the people that produce and create the most tax revenue. Like we're not doing enough already fuck faces?

Yikes! To pay that $20k/yr implies a high income, which also means a high income tax bill.

California reminds me of a guy I knew who ran a crappy professional services business tied in with union kickbacks and heavy advertising. The philosophy was that as long as the connections and heavy advertising kept people funneled in the front door faster than they complained and bailed out the back door, the business continued to make a profit.

Eventually, the business failed due to various lawsuits and fraud investigations. The model couldn't sustain when the inferior or unnecessary services were cynically tied to corrupt reimbursements.

That's what I think of when I conceptualize the working model of California governance. Keep cramming them in the front door faster than they flee and flip the bird leaving, and the abusive models can still make money for the crooks.

Yah Illinois is a double or even triple negative. High taxes and no great weather or beaches or any of the natural features of a California. We have really nice weather on the coast most of the year, not too hot and rarely humid, never all that cold and no snow. Plus high crime in Chicago and some other cities, and lefty government that never changes. I’ve lived there but as a student so it was different than as a taxpayer getting milked dry by the local government.

What they fail to mention is that eventually everyone will be making over $250K because of inflation, but that income will be worth only what $25K is today.

So everyone will pay the higher tax, and be worse off.

Yes, by default you'd have to have a decent income to qualify for a $600-700k home loan in almost any area with a decent down payment. Doesn't mean you should take it up the ass in property taxes though. For a property of that value, most states are at minimum 20% lower and most are half that. A high income isn't a right for the government to take your money.

The Daily Wire, the conservative media company started by Ben Shapiro, Jeremy Boreing and Caleb Robinson, plans to move its headquarters from Los Angeles to Nashville.

Boreing said that the move was being made due to a declining quality of life in the city, including high housing costs and homelessness.

The publisher’s 75 employees based in Los Angeles are being given until Oct. 1 to decide whether to make the move, Boreing said. He said that it looked like about 80% would make the move.

80% of a 5 year old company! These aren’t people with a retirement or years vested. And they’re moving out of a major market for their type of work!

I have a good job but if I was starting out today, it wouldn’t be in California. I’d maybe put two years in to have legitimate experience on my resume and to save, but I’d start my life out in Texas, or somewhere much cheaper and less shitty than Los Angeles.

What about the folks who borrowed and paid off a lower amount, years ago, and are living on a low retirement income? They are screwed.

This scenario and a property boom in the mid-1970's that led to punishingly high assessments and taxes for younger tax donkeys were the impetus for Proposition 13 in California.

It was a flawed law as it also applied to commercial property. There's been efforts to reform it.

Stripe Workers Who Relocate Get $20,000 Bonus and a Pay Cut

Stripe Inc. plans to make a one-time payment of $20,000 to employees who opt to move out of San Francisco, New York or Seattle, but also cut their base salary by as much as 10%, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The payments processor will make the offer available to workers who choose to relocate before the end of the year, said the person, who asked to remain anonymous to discuss private details. But employees opting to move may have to relinquish some of their base pay.

The new policy adds Stripe to the list of technology companies that have expanded opportunities for employees to work remotely while also signaling they may implement pay cuts if workers move to less-expensive cities. VMware Inc. told Bloomberg News on Friday it had instituted such a policy, and Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc. and ServiceNow Inc. have all considered similar measures.

Mike Manning, a spokesman for Stripe, declined to comment.

For many Americans, the Covid-19 crisis has upended the cost-benefit balance of living in expensive metropolitan areas, which for months have been devoid of their usual flair. With corporate campuses and office buildings still closed or only partially staffed, many companies have given workers more leeway than ever to decide where and how they want to work. That’s led scores of white-collar workers to move closer to loved ones or to more sparsely populated areas with less punishing living costs.

Pay cuts and a lesser need for pricey office space offer companies ways to save money. But a migration of workers from downtown headquarters also pose challenges for bosses who worry that remote work over the long term could stifle innovation or hamper productivity. It will also be financially challenging for coastal hubs that have long attracted large companies and their highly paid employees.

Concept: California simulator. Close all windows, turn off air conditioning, and maintain a room temperature above 85°. You can open a window if you want, but as punishment you go outside and smoke four cigarettes in a row. Also you light a $20 bill on fire every 5 minutes.

75   Ceffer   2020 Sep 16, 6:34pm

Today was a blessed moment of respite from the smoke. In the morning, clear with sweet Pacific breezes, temperature 70. It was the way the boosters would have you think it is every day. I took advantage of the clearing window and took a 4.5 mile hike up the hills amidst the mansions and nature. I have been hacking lung shit every day.

Smoke is back a little bit this evening. It'll probably be some version of smoke tomorrow. It looked like a low pressure drew in some clear ocean air, but the smoke maps show that it is an island and that everywhere else is still choking.

Hopefully, the payment is only "earned" when the employee has completed the relocation, otherwise, the state they are trying to escape is going to try to tax that $20k.

They still get to tax it. You pay both states in the year you move. Or in some cases, if you move in the first half vs the second half.
Hmm... this is actually a concern I have, given my desire to flee California. It was my understanding that money specifically "earned" in a given state is taxed in that sate only. For example, if you take a 3-month contract job out of state and move to that state for 3 months to do the work, you would only pay state income tax in that state.

I know I should update my pic, a long time ago it was my dog, then it became the California state flag because I loved California. I still do in fact, it's just in a very sick state, and I think it's pretty critical right now, it might not make it back, which is sad, but I do hope for the best. I'm pretty moderate in my politics by all metrics, which makes me literally Hitler to most cali liberals. I'll update it though, maybe the great seal/flag of Jefferson?

Looks like the Asian Exclusion Act of 2020 is not polling well...
Yet despite high-profile support from Gov. Gavin Newsom, the Golden State Warriors, the San Francisco Giants, just 31% of likely voters say they approve of Proposition 16, while 47% oppose it and 22% say they are undecided.

Rogan, Shapiro, et al say the quality of life and politics has ruined California; I also complain about the homeless and crazy politics where I live, but the bottom line is taxes. They and I want to avoid them.

California is like a beautiful girl you dated at great expense; eventually you either decide you don’t like the expense or she picks a richer guy.

Either way, you have your memories and your money when it’s over.

Just the idea of paying taxes to support people who hate me is an anathema.

Strange, Panet talked about this stuff at length years ago when Turtledove was still with us. The festering urban boils, combined with governmental malfeasances, corruption, and rank idiocy, were bound to burst some day. The Democratic and Deep (Shallow) State seditions, criminal enablements and riots/terrorist seedings with Covid Blue Pill Vehicle just accelerated the process.

from the Legislator's official website
https://a18.asmdc.org/press-releases/20200813-bonta-leads-push-greater-equity-tax-structure-through-first-nation-wealth

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) and more than a dozen fellow lawmakers have introduced legislation that would establish a first-in-the-nation net worth tax. This proposed wealth tax would generate an estimated $7.5 billion per year for California’s vital needs like education, housing, health care, and other state services.

The California Wealth Tax (AB 2088 as amended) would apply a 0.4% tax on the portion of a taxpayer's net worth that exceeds $30 million. (approximately 30,400 people.)

The California Wealth Tax would add critically needed revenue for Californiashoring up California public employee pension funds by creating a more equitable tax structure,” said Bonta. “Families are hurting right now. COVID-19 has only made matters worse. In times of crisis, all Californians must step up and contribute their fair share."

94   B.A.C.A.H.   2020 Sep 20, 11:53am

The proposed "Wealth Tax" on folks with > $30 million in assets will result in reduced tax collections. Those are the most mobile people. They will leave. Then, not only will they not collect the wealth tax, but they will also lose the already-high-other-taxes they were collecting from those folks. It will be a Death Spiral. Sheesh.
95   B.A.C.A.H.   2020 Sep 20, 11:55am

On a related topic, there has been a Conspiracy of Silence from Sacramento, and local governments, on tax collections to date. Meanwhile they have kept right on spending as if it were still good times.

In the Dem get full power, look for more of this "California Wealth Tax (AB 2088 as amended)." Only with a twist. We could have a national wealth tax collected from the high earners, but then remitted to the states according to population density or "need." That way the rich guy pays the tax and states like California benefit even if the rich guy moves.
