Because it is...Jersey certainly has cheaper gas than California, but when you figure out tolls on parkway/turnpike, entering holland tunnel, lincoln tunnel, GWB or parking in city or in garages in jersey city/NY and/or getting a bus pass in addition to costs of owning car, I would think that the 1.70 or so per gallon diff between NJ and CA is not that big a deal.

Only people like my parents who basically work in same town they live and don't use toll roads, buses or drive into city/park everyday benefit from relatively cheap gas prices.
