Seems pretty common from what my wife and friends have told me. I've never had a female boss but I have had female management that I've had to work with and they are the worse followed by men who act like women.
I have had a female boss for the past 3 years. She was an elementary school teacher and has no science knowledge. It's sad watching her try to fake that she knows Freshman Physics. Thing is, we just make fun of her behind her back for it and ignore her half of the time. The Chemistry female faculty absolutely loathes her because she's higher up than them, even though they were infinitely better teachers and know way more than her.
The conflict is perhaps because younger women inherently have much greater power in the sexual market than older women do. So there is a conflict between the older woman's power in the organization, and her weakness in attracting the attention of the desirable men in the office.
Men on the other hand just grow in power both organizationally and in their sexual value to women as they age (up to a point). Older male bosses don't really fear sexual competition from younger rivals, because women generally go for the higher status guy in any situation. None of this is spoken, it's just understood.
