An End to Free Trade

Perhaps no single proposal by Donald Trump is as striking and antiquated as his strategy to keep American jobs from being "taken away" by foreign countries, such as Mexico and China.

Trump doesn't consider international trade to be a win-win proposition as do most modern economists. Instead, Trump believes that trade wars have clear winners and losers, and that currencies and trade restrictions must be used to ensure victory.

At various times throughout his campaign, Trump has pledged to put in place a 20% tariff on all imported goods. He told an audience that he would have told the CEO of Ford Motor Co. that he would have the government impose a 35% tariff on all Ford products if a Ford motor plant was shut down in Detroit and moved to Mexico. He has said that he would even impose a Chinese-specific tariff to offset the effects of Chinese currency manipulation.

Five-Point Tax Plan

Along with his 20% tariff on imported goods, Trump also wants to impose an additional 20% tax on companies that hire foreign workers.

The fifth part of the five-point plan is a simplified tax code with the following brackets: 1% tax on the first $30,000 in income, 5% tax on all income between $30,000 and $100,000, 10% tax on all income between $100,000 and $1 million, and a 15% rate on all income above $1 million.

Foreign Policy

Trump projects a hardline stance on illegal immigration, turmoil in the Middle East, and negotiations with China, Russia and Iran.

President Trump would push to build a physical wall on the border with Mexico. He proposed sending Exxon Mobil to Iraq to "take back the oil" to starve ISIS. However, he refuses to say whether he'd commit more American troops overseas.

China may reach a point where they surprass us. We don't have to help them get there.

We helped Japan, Germany, S. Korea, and Taiwan. Look how much it helped us.

23   lostand confused   2015 Aug 4, 8:21pm

Ah you hire your own H1B-that is different. Most of the companies including current, we have an outsourced solution. So it will be the big consulting firms and us managing. But that is because I have worked mostly in companies that actually produce/manufacture etc and IT is just to keep the company going-an expense, not a profit center. I guess when tech is your product, you would need the best of the best-as they are the ones creating your "product" and hence sales/profit. That is a different dynamic.

Free trade is idiotic.

Free trade and free markets are ruthless and uncaring ... but with light regulation and oversight ... they are the best market around.

lostand confused says

If Apple or Google loses some revenue in China-who cares? But if the same trade policy creates 10 million lower middle class jobs-that would be far more beneficial-in terms of reducing welfare, increasing taxes etc-EGADS I am sounding like a socialist!!!

You are hurting the remnants of the middle class to get blue collar sub standard jobs, with no hope of competing internationally, back into the US. Those jobs are gone gone gone.

Goog and Fruit are the envy of the gosh darn world right now.

You also close an amazing resource and talent draw the US has.

Know what Germany does for higher education? They pay for every student to go. Why? Students tend to stick around and work in Germany after graduation.

Imagine if that was the US and we had H1B visas going?

The future is going to be countries competing for the best talent, like they are corporations, themselves : this one has nicer laws, lower taxes, great scenery, good housing, medical care, lower crime ... etc. etc. etc.

Much as I don't like the term income inequality-because the dems call for higher taxes-that really is a problem. What we are doing is creating a small subset of population that live "fairytale" lives. While tens of millions who are hanging on by a thread-or gubmnt benefits. The dems solutions of raising min wage or taxes are misguided -but the problem exists. Do we want to be like some countries with rich surrounded by starving masses-or in our course 300 pound welfare freaks?? maybe the obese poor won't have the energy for a revolution-LOL!

But yes, I see your point. China and India were once global powerhouses. in fact America was founded because Christopher Columbus wanted an easier route to the riches of India. But my fear is we are following their footsteps into long term decay. A few tech companies concentrated in one area is not going to help the whole country.
I am glad I came to the Midwest, it has widened my horizons and allowed me to look at people with a different worldview. I don't know all the answers-but lets see which way it is going to lurch.

I agree we are creating mass inequalities. If you don't close tax loopholes for businesses, tax making money off money more, and increasing taxes on the top 1%, what is the solution? (The powers that be like a really complex tax code ... so they can game it.)

If those taxes are allocated for education ... America becomes unfathomably more powerful in just 1 generation.

The sad truth is no candidate, with a chance of winning, puts us on the footing we need. It's going to get really dangerous and populist based when that happens. ;) I give it 4 to 8 years. :)

Give it 5 years and China will probably equal greater than 50% of the revenue for my company ... even at the lower growth projections they are at now.

That assumes that a Chinese company doesn't figure out how to copy your business in the next 5 years. Which they are almost certainly trying to do.

Has the US missed any of its debt payments yet?? So, by your own definition, the country is not bankrupt. For someone who is so concerned with grammar and meanings, you are very confused on the definition of bankrupt.

If "debt" is interpreted as meaning "a payment", then the USA is not bankrupt.
If "debt" is interpreted as meaning "the totality of what you owe", then the USA is bankrupt.

No, you are wrong and I am right. You cannot say that the US is "unable to pay debts" because it has and continues to pay them. At no point has it ever NOT paid any of its debts.

All you can say is that "in your opinion, at some point in the future the US will be unable to pay its debts". Which is certainly an opinion you are entitled to. But it is factually incorrect to say the US is currently bankrupt.

And yet he advocates shutting down government as a legislative tactic on an issue he's flip-flopped on. He's grossly unstable, but he's the perfect mouthpiece for the big "Fuck You" America wants to give its government, especially its legislators. He's too unstable fiscally (his repeated reliance on bankruptcy) and topically (abortion rights and political advocacy) and verbally to be taken seriously as a candidate late in the run. He may hold his tongue in this debate, but in subsequent debates as the clock really counts down and the mud really starts flying he probably won't be able to keep it in his pants (freaking out is what fuels his popularity) and remain on the GOP ticket. I just hope he paces himself and saves the money shot for when he can do the most damage to the GOP/Koch inspired plan to destroy government and let money determine the structure of life.

Even if all of this were true, it would still be a big improvement over Obama.

In 2013 it was a bad thing as Gadaffi was tamed, cooperating against Al Qaeda and voluntarily turned over his nuke and WMD program which helped us expose the AQ Khan/North Korea nuke proliferation ring.

One would think that with all that "Smart Power" in the Obama Administration they would have learned after the Iraq War not to conduct Regime Change in the Muslim/Arab world if you don't plan on filling the void with a massive number of troops.

Just wait until the Republicans start running this clip against Hillary.

Make my nothing burger medium rare.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/05/politics/donald-trump-corey-lewandowski-recordings-arizona/index.html

Lewandowski insisted Thursday that Borders "never worked for the Trump campaign in any capacity," citing the fact that Borders was never paid and did not have a contract -- something Borders does not deny...

"Like many people he was going through the process of potentially doing work for the campaign," Lewandowski said. "Like we do with everyone (who reaches out), we tell them why don't you put a plan together and we'll vet that."

He said others were also putting together proposals and Borders was in no way about to be hired by the campaign.

Lewandowski said phone conversations between him and Borders in no way reflect the seriousness of the relationship, telling CNN that he returns calls of many people interested in playing a role in the campaign.

In the recordings of phone calls, Lewandowski discusses potentially hiring Borders to lead the campaign's Arizona operations before telling him the campaign would need to downplay him as an "overzealous volunteer" in a later phone call.

After learning of Borders' Facebook posts -- which include a doctored image of President Barack Obama in a turban with a beard, several photos of Obama alongside Adolf Hitler, and another photo saying Obama was "twice elected because the color of his skin rather than the content of his character -- Lewandowski tried to distance the campaign.

Sounds like a mole from the GOP or the slimmy Libs(nothing is beneath them).
The takeaway here is this guy called Trumps campaign, they said show us what you got kid. Borders then whips out his junk and pisses on the Trump campaign.
Then he was told he sucks and to take a hike. Not to be dissuaded his liberal or GOP backers told him to double down on being an honest Trump staffer.
This is going to be funny when Trump hires detectives and lawyers to weed out the Rat in the woodpile.
