No one is blaming Obama for anything, except shitty Obamacare which is still on the books.

Trump fixed most of the things Obama fucked up, not everything, but most.

Trump even brought down the Corona-virus mortality rate below 1% . MAAAA GAAAAAA

one day you'll make a grown up argument... but i don't think that day is today. sorry, better luck next time.

But if the virus takes hold here, then it could be a few years before stocks rally. But rally they will.

"Buy when there's blood in the streets."

No time to buy as you have to wait it out. Don't catch the falling knife.

If your 50 and under with no intention of retiring in the next 5-7 years, you should be buying and buying a lot of index funds if you don't have time to research. Double or triple your 401k withholdings if they are paid each paycheck and fund purchases immediately.

You've given the worst possible advice and I don't get why?
108964   clambo   2020 Mar 5, 10:53am

Like wookie says, if you have the income, keep buying stock mutual funds for capital appreciation.

Personally I prefer actively managed funds in retirement accounts and index funds in taxable accounts because they are tax efficient (don’t produce big 1099).

Either way, time invested will increase your pile, compounded dividends are the secret boost.

I wish I had more income, but I won’t be able to do anything about that for a few months.

People in S. Florida said to me “enjoy your money, you can’t take it with you”, but I somehow can’t switch gears to stop wanting to invest.

If you aren’t buying dips, you are missing out.

No one is gonna hold your hand and tell you to buy now.

Being a winner is a choice. Being a loser is a default.
You advocate staking financial stability on gambling hunches and "loser" status on not gambling.

Is this wise?

It’s not gambling if you know what you are doing and have a predictable ror.

That’s funny. He said nothing about SS and Medicare. So much fake news on the left, I am under impression that the left today is autistic with TDS.

Choices, Choices? Do we gamble on Coronavirus, or just rob corpses?
108970   Ceffer   2020 Mar 6, 10:47am

Starting age for SS should be 95, and Medicare 100. Problem solved. Stogies for lobbyists.

I hear that Coronavirus, zinc, nitrogen and a few mowed down neighbors really green up the lawn.

Know that Six degrees of Separation thing?

I am two degrees. Or is it three? ...from a confirmed coronavirus infected person.

Me -> My parents (retired) -> Another couple in the same retirement community as my parents who play bocce ball with them. They are on this cruise ship. Wife has tested positive. Total of 17 passengers are from the same retirement community as well. No, my parents are not one of them on that ship. Nor have I ever come into contact with these people myself.

You and your family are in danger of all dying in exactly 3 weeks.
108978   mell   2020 Mar 6, 5:13pm

lol sometimes too much info isn't good. They will all be quarantined anyways. So far SF sits at 2 cases but there may be a few more undetected. Probably higher chances of winning a few grand in the lottery than catching it unless the numbers rise sharply.

Already are. Ship has been stuck out in the Bay for alike three days now or something.

I'm surprised they let them out here as they were figuring out if SF had the proper cdc procedures in place. They must have gotten rid of all the hobos within the perimeter. It's pretty nice to finally have less traffic in the city again.

There doesn't seem to be that much to worry about if you're reasonably young and healthy, and a non-smoker. Most of the deaths are elderly or smokers or have big health problems already.

Work from home if you can. Wash your hands. Have a glass of red wine (some evidence that it reduces flus, and definitely reduces tension). Watch a movie.

I agree. He did have a good point about how all our meds come from China and India and they can and will without it if they need it. We should require at least some medicine to be made in USA.

I'm going to do the complete opposite and go on a cruise. lol. Although they did just offer an updated cancellation policy. I'm actually looking forward an empty ship. And if you like cruises or have thought about trying one, booking one now is insanely cheap for the coming months. Mine is a 10 day and with fees baked in you're looking at about $550 for an interior room. Food, booze and room all inclusive.... That's likely cheaper than your everyday living budget for those things.

If this thing goes away kind of quietly. pick up cruise stocks. As long as this doesn't tank the broader overall economy long term, cruise lines can and will recover.

Don't forget: Get ten minutes of sun a day on all the skin you can!! Much better than Vitamin D pills to strengthen your immune system. The pills don't seem to really work at all.
You can get the little bits of skin cancer burned off in your 70's. It's gonna happen anyway because you played outdoors as a kid.

No, these places have waits of over a year to get in. If anything, this virus only has the potential to reduce the waiting time.

Already happened to me a couple of years ago. Got a spot of basal cell skin cancer on my lower leg. They cut off the spot and I put some kind of chemo cream directly on it for a few weeks. Has not recurred.

Actually, the scientific paper referred to in the article seems somewhat optimistic:

Population genetic analyses of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes indicated that these viruses evolved into two major types...

Although the L type (∼70%) is more prevalent than the S type (∼30%)... Whereas the L type was more prevalent in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan, the frequency of the L type decreased after early January 2020. Human intervention may have placed more severe selective pressure on the L type, which might be more aggressive and spread more quickly. On the other hand, the S type, which is evolutionarily older and less aggressive, might have increased in relative frequency due to relatively weaker selective pressure.
