Why does anyone give a flying fuck about Kanye West? Never thought I'd see the day on patnet where this is a going concern. Or am I mental or something???

Seems like partisan people will look for any opportunity to prove their point. It's been forever - like, fucking never - since I invoked Kayne West in an argument. But, like the great Kim Kardashian says...

I also understand that we need to open the economy for the daily wage earners who cannot survive the lock-down. The answer is testings and tracing like South Korea and Japan

I get your comparison to driving laws and pools. That makes sense to a degree. But, it's not apples to apples. Everyone can drive the speed limit exactly and obey every single traffic law and accidents are still going to happen. And that's with something we can physically control, a vehicle.

How do you control a virus? You don't. At the end of the day it's a risk that you or I cannot control. At some point people that feel at risk just have to stay in place. I think some people are also thinking that the one's saying this is just a flu are discounting the fact that there CURRENTLY is a vaccine for most strains. We may pass the death total during this first blast of Covid versus regular flu, but WITHOUT a vaccine this is going to be on par with the flu.

A not vaccine-able strain of a virus is going around and it still hasn't beaten the typical flu. Pause for a second and think about that? Step back and ponder the reaction?

LOL! Japan had low number in early March because their government was suppressing testing (thereby suppressing numbers) in order to have to Olympic Game this year. The Japanese case numbers magically mushroomed after they decided to postpone the Olympics to next year.

Testing and tracing are meaningless after the contagious disease is community-spreading. What you are suggesting is pervasive monitoring and removing of all privacy rights on account of a Cold (not even rising to the death rate or count of normal flu season).

I don't know the who, when, where (well China) and how of this all. But I'm pretty convinced at this point it was all contrived/plotted. We have people in mass hysteria over a virus that has no vaccine that is less deadly than your typical influenza WITH a vaccine. That makes zero sense....? Hospital are laying people off. Educated people are freaked out. It's fucking weird.

And there's a vax for the flu too. We may not top deaths for Covid-19 versus influenza WITHOUT a vaccine for Covid. I get more angry every day over this. Hence why I'm so combative to a few users here. Most of their stances are actual lies and made up BS.

There are so many variables; I have a vent dependent patient who tested positive and yet was fairly asymptomatic and seems to have done ok... while seemingly healthy patients are sick as shit.

I worked hospice for 20+ years; I saw patients who smoked all of their lives who were free of lung cancer, breathing problems, etc. It astounds me how some patients who smoked all of their lives live well into their 90's. But I guess it's important to remember that Euell Gibbons died of natural causes...

Not really sure I understand these comments. How do you define beating "the typical flu"?

Anyway, according to the CDC influenz death rates, US Covid-19 deaths have (37,000) already surpassed 2010-2012 and 2015-16 flu seasons. That's 3 of the last 9 flu season.

Guess what. In 3 days we will surpass 3 more of those past 9 years. 6 of 9.

2017-18 season had 80k deaths. What's your point? It's like a severe influenza season.

That is my point 80k deaths is a servere flu season, not to be confused with a "typical" or "normal" flu season. We will be blowing by a "typical" or "normal" flu season in a few days.

Sorry, I'm just being logical.

Sure but we don't lock down the whole country during a severe flu season, in fact we did nothing. We will likely not reach the 80k this season, next season the counter starts anew like with the flu, counting deaths throughout the year would be cheating unless you do it with the flu and common cold as well. This won't be the last time this happens, but if we have a pandemic every few decades or make it every decade and lose a couple hundred thousand, how does this make any difference in the world as a whole with its growing population of close to 8 billion. It's insane to cause widespread economic devastation, depression, drug use and suicide in the tens of millions for this. Since you apply logic you should agree with this, Spock would have weighed the greater good for the young masses over saving a few who mostly already lived 80% or more of their lives. So should we.

You could probably "save" hundreds of thousands of lives every year dying of environmental causes, pneumoniae, lung cancer, you name it by shutting down all industrial production and all car/plane/ship traffic, INCLUDING electric cars which kill as many people if you take manufacturing and small particle dust into account. CV-19 is no different just because it's contagious. If you shut down everything you would likely also shut down all technological and medical progress, and of course cause world-wide economic and real starvation and depression, suicides etc. There are always trade-offs and this one is clearly not worth it.

Sanchez considers Trump “reprehensible as a human being” and the Republican Party morally bankrupt. “I couldn’t be a part of it anymore,” she said, and as a result, at age 40 the newly registered independent is weighing her first-ever Democratic vote for president.

“It’s amazing the change, in just the last few years,” said Q. Whitfield Ayres, a pollster who has spent decades strategizing for Republican campaigns and causes. “It’s not any one place. It’s everywhere.”

Again false equivalency. I am not against opening the economy and take some dead COVID-19 patients. I am against deaths before we take some valid protective measures such as test and trace . I also do not want to increase the hospitalization burden rate beyond capacity.

There is no hospitalization burden as of now in 99% of areas. They deferred all elective surgery and turned away other patients to be ready for the "surge" which never came. Many of those patients in need of their continued treatment or surgery you mentioned are currently being held at arms bay by unreliable models and population-control fantasies. The severe Covid-19 patients need a bed and a ventilator and some drugs, they don't need any of the hospitals complex devices and procedures necessary to other patients. If they're so worried about a surge, keep the makeshift field hospitals in conference centers and tents that they just shuttered again, since no large gathering will be allowed anyways, and pay those suffering hotels/businesses some rent. Let the real hospitals be open for all the other patients and open up already. That way you'd also reduce contagion within the hospitals. This is beyond bullshit at this point and the majority of the population is held hostage. I hope the protesters won't give up to get their lives back until we opened up everywhere to a reasonable level again. Face-masks will help keep the spread at bay.

I think I can agree with that. Did captain Kirk always side with Spock's logic? You should be able to agree with this, Spoke would have needed to know how the virus affects people before he would have been able to make any logical determination.

Agreed - lol Kirk would have battled Spock to death to save just one life he was fond of and risk the lives of many - but that didn't make him right. And in this case it is even more severe since we're destroying the future of the youth to save the old. Now we should respect and protect the old to a reasonable extent, but not by sacrificing those who have their whole life ahead.

The only area where they ever had to use makeshift hospitals mentioned in the news/media was NY and that was short lived. What other state had to resort to mass field hospitals? Positive proof is required to justify continued harsh measures, not negative. I know here in CA there's zero excess burden right now, of course they cleared the hospitals of most other patients. They should move CV-19 patients outside of the regular hospitals into makeshift ones like China did, there's plenty of space right now since all conference centers are shut down for months to come.

Maybe Louisiana? Irregardless, the point of SIP was to keep hospitals at a manageable level so it appears SIP has been working.

Of course keeping people away works to some extent - the question is how many more cases we would have had without it. I bet if you let people return to their offices practicing increased hygiene (masks where necessary) and open up with restrictions you'd see less than 20% increase in total cases if at all. The vast majority of infections even before the SIP where within the family like with every contagious illness. Just keep social distance to the old and weak where necessary. It's very difficult to say to what extent the SIP reduces transmission if you had no tests before the SIP to begin with - no data no comparison.

Keyword is "still". Step back and ponder why you're not thinking this through beyond today?

Because it doesn't matter. The goal posts keep moving on this. No one knows this virus outside of knowing who it's killing. I posted the article in another thread(s). 20% of our deaths are in nursing homes ALONE. That's not accounting for retirement communities where the residents are fully capable of taking care of themselves and live independent lives with other underlying conditions. 55+ communities or whatever the allowable legal code is in your area. ALL of these place were mostly wide open in March.

It's extremely likely we could shut down these two sources of death and drop the death rate by 40-60%. Likely higher. At this point it's probably too late, hence why I'm saying tomorrow doesn't matter from your above quote. There are fewer and fewer victims to kill as the days go by. This ship has sailed and there was zero way to prevent that outside of China and the WHO not being cunts. Destroying the economy and politicizing this in many cases is pure evil.

Beside staying at home, this whole thing doesn't even move the needle for me personally. So this isn't emotion of not having a job, money, food or even a loved one that's died. My wife and I can live for a couple years without a single paycheck. This is pure bullshit and history is going to tell a different story when this is all said and done. We'll end up with a semi effective vaccine where there are still 10's of thousands of deaths every year, just. like. the. flu.

It's a fair point, the ship may have sailed or no matter what we do this is going to keep coming back. 1% or whatever are going to die, mostly the aged, and that's that. I don't agree with this since I don't see it as inevitable. We're pretty good at coming up with cures, and I think we will whether that's TrumpPills or Remdesivir or whatever with a bit of time.

I can't tell you how it fills my heart with joy that the DemMedia can no longer control the narrative through the mass media.

It's ironic, as soon as the millennials graduated, the first generation of newsrooms to embrace unmitigated "advocacy journalism", is the same moment they began to lose power.

The Media is one of the least trusted institutions in America, particularly in reference to the Wuhanvirus:

https://news.gallup.com/poll/300680/coronavirus-response-hospitals-rated-best-news-media-worst.aspx

I eagerly await the layoffs that are coming in early 2021, as they do after every election cycle.

Even Science and Space stuff is no longer relevant in Major Media, it's either retarded level dumb-down, months behind the times, and most often, the Female "Science Education" Degree holder diversity hire doesn't understand the subject. JM Godier, Issac Arthur, Felix of Whataboutit?, Scott Manley, Robert Zimmerman, etc.

The media has been lying it’s ass off since the cv was first discovered. US residents are right to distrust them. The fucking LA Times runs this today:

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-04-17/usc-coronavirus-survey#null

“Less than half of L.A. County residents still have jobs amid coronavirus crisis“

While a true statement, the effect is that most readers will interpret that as half of the people in LA County lost their jobs due to the shutdown. Actually it’s about 16%. Bad, very bad, but not 50%. Furthermore the Times writers and editors knew exactly what they were doing.

This is called deception. Lying. The Times and other US msm do it like its second nature. They do not consider it immoral or wrong. They are leftists with no compass guided by religion. Really they have become satanic at this point.

Trump closed travel, then downplayed the disease. For a month and a half. Isn't that odd? Why did he close anything if he didn't think it was dangerous?

Easy to explain, he closed it early which was the right thing to do but thought it would stem most potential transmissions. He didn't know and noone did how many had already been infected by that time. So he talked it down like most people would have as many were caught off guard by the quick spread. He changed his tune when he learned about the severity, as we all did, Fauci, CDC, WHO... Still by closing travel from China he was ahead of most.
