It's been clear for a while now that we don't need any lockdowns, just enjoy your life.

So your position is what? the virus has burnt its self out? That social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing are not and never were needed? no restrictions are needed? Lets just go back to February and make America great again?

This is today's view of the lines of traffic with Illinois, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, etc. license plates trying to get into Panama City Beach, FL.

Look at the web cams for beach bars and restaurants like Sharky's and Pineapple Willies: https://wpct.beachtv.tv/p/AjuSoN9J

You will see a lot of people not afraid to be outside their homes.

The initial 15 days trial to make sure hospitals don't overload were ok, masks inside are ok if required by the owner but they had that right before anyways. Better hygiene, distancing, frequent hand washing and bit touching your face I'm all on board with. I'm opposing the lockdowns and masks mandated outside, both not necessary and unconstitutional.

This all makes sense. I swear the inmates are running the asylum here in California. Thank God President Trump said we will just have to tough it out through any future waves.

Georgia defies science deniers, and is surging in cases since May 11. Just took a while to show up due to test reporting lag.

I already addressed what you claim is an giant second wave. A rise of 100 per day for a week, then a sharp drop is not a second wave.

Like you just said, it's likely due to a lag in reporting and even likely due to the jump in testing GA does now

pretty much agree and that seems to be where we are heading. And Into having widespread, simmering disease, at least over the summer. The snags are going to be "gatherings" of people sports, church, certain professions etc

Also remember when you're one of the few open states people will tend to go there. Georgia has some beautiful lakes you can rent homes on and spend an awesome week there. We almost went ourselves, but TN was just closer.

My wife just went to Indiana Thursday with some friends overnight because they were more open than IL. The earlier states that opened back up should do much better financially.

Also, I don't get the focus on cases. More testing will result in more cases statistically. The fact GA is down from the peak, means it's probably done there. Deaths are really the only thing that matter at this point. If we can treat it better, more like the common flu, than deaths are really the only thing that matter. They are plummeting.....
25   Tenpoundbass   2020 May 23, 9:06am

Yesterday I was reading some study that said the data used to open the state of Georgia was flawed and they should have never reopen.
The article never did reconcile the fact that there hasn't been a resurgence.

Deaths are the ONLY thing that ever mattered. We all have survived the flu and colds like corona before. This was to be a KILLER. MILLIONS were going to DIE! If we did not shelter in place for two weeks and flatten the curve hospitals would be OVERWHELMED! Millions would still die but they would be spread out over time.

Two and a half months later, we are still on house restriction, not even a hundred thousand have died, and instead of opening the economy, they have changed the goal to eliminating the "invisible enemy".

They are planning on a "new normal" where everyone wears a mask and stays six feet from everyone else. Restaurants, bars, sporting events, schools, all have to be reconfigured to avoid human contact.

FUCK THAT!

Wear your mask, hide in your home, if you are so afraid of dying, crawl into your hole and let the rest of us be free to live.

There's almost zero deaths at that last data point. They could be off by a magnitude of 5 and the deaths have still plummeted from the peak AND they're open. So sick of seeing government and people reporting cases when they're fucking testing more. It's disingenuous. Dead people are the only thing that matter in the conversation and they're literally almost seeing zero deaths a day at this point. But hey... positive cases....

We're going to get to the point that there are just too many people that have COVID-19. It won't even be about the loss of life. Just too many people have it. It's coming....
28   WookieMan   2020 May 23, 11:43am

We can't confirm a "sharp drop" due to the reporting lag. The rise was concealed for quite a while.

Stop focusing on new cases as there's more testing! This isn't complicated. I just posted a graph from the same source for deaths. That IS the scary part of this virus and it's clearly going away. Even if the numbers are way off, it most certainly is dropping and by a lot. #CasesDon'tMatter #GAOpen
29   Onvacation   2020 May 23, 12:12pm

I might have had COVID-19. I'll never know because I was never tested.
30   joshuatrio   2020 May 23, 2:20pm

It's pretty steady down here. Plenty of traffic again.

What's funny is that rush hour doesn't really start in the morning as people are going in a lot later. Coming home I was in 2 jams the other day.
31   mell   2020 May 23, 2:34pm

Over the years unless it's magically going away probably up to 50% of the population will at some point come in contact with it. Move on and live your life. Get over it.

The people ponying up the graphs, facts, science in this thread and others are the Shutdown Skeptics.

Shutdown Advocates are simply making arguments from authorities, authorities whose models and theories are already proven beyond wrong by the actual observations from the real world.

Not true at all. Anyone needing or receiving critical care, close to death, has likely been tested days if not weeks ago. Basically there's a high probability that we know when someone passes if they have COVID-19 or not. Those numbers cannot lag as much as fresh cases.

And if people are dying before results get back, then they were basically dead anyway. COVID-19 likely wasn't the cause. This is all pretty basic stuff.

39   MisdemeanorRebel   2020 May 24, 7:42pm

Another thing we learned: The US Health Care System dealt with COVID better than Western Europe:

40   MisdemeanorRebel   2020 May 24, 7:45pm

And finally, lockdowns didn't work to prevent the spread:

The US, Sweden, and UK were all effected about the same time (Western Europe was a week or so earlier)

Sweden, which didn't lockdown, only mild social distancing enforced and large public events cancelled, experienced the same trend as the US and UK, which did
41   mell   2020 May 24, 8:55pm

The narrative instilled in people's minds by the lamestream media and certain leftoids is now that Sweden is a failure because they have a moderate to high infection/death rate compared to other countries, however they are somewhere around 5-10 in the top 10 with many countries with strict lockdowns with higher rates in front of them. Nonetheless I have heard that argument now at least 5 times and always had to correct them that there's zero statistical significance in those varations.

Sweden should be compared to other Nordic countries, not to countries that were hit by an earlier wave with higher traffic. Sweden already has 5 to 10 times more deaths per capita than its bordering neighbors (Denmark, Norway, Finland).

Sweden has 1.5 x cases per capita than Denmark and twice those of Norway and Finland, nothing to see here. And guess what, the population density per square mile is roughly twice as much for Sweden than for Norway and Finland - who da thunk! The death rate largely depends on age, comorbidites and quality of care. It varies a lot in between those 4 countries relative to infections. I'm sure if you account for missed critical diagnosis for heart disease and cancer, lost economic livelihoods, increases in depression, drug use and suicide, then keeping the economy and hospitals open comes out ahead.
43   mell   2020 May 25, 8:25am

Healthcare Frontline workers have a lower infection rate than the rest of the population. Wear a mask indoors or at a close contact gathering. Case closed.

Give us information that says deaths are going up and GA is in the midst of some massive 2nd wave and you can shut us up pretty quickly. There is none. So you guys just say we're all wrong with no data and say something about lag in testing when likely 80-90% of those that pass or receive critical care have already been tested.

New cases are vastly different than deaths. No need to have a Ph.D. or be a scientist. It's a word on a fucking death certificate.

Higher percentage of illegals explains this. When you are living 15 people to a house, it spreads easily inside the house.
