Sounds like rocketjoe is either
- A California ®ealtor
- A "civil servant" in California
- A close relative of one of those who is relying on it.
Where can I live with these characteristics?
rocketjoe79 saysWhere can I find a similar climate?
South Africa and Chile.

None of the above, but I have been thinking about where could I go with similar climate if I left NorCal?
Self-imposed limits:
1. Hate high humidity in the summer. High humidity for me is over 60%.
2. Refuse to shovel snow, or deal with it for 3 months.
3. I like sun and Blue sky. We get 330 days of sun a year now. I could deal with 300. Maybe 270.
3. I can handle 100+ degrees, but not three months worth. A month is ok.

Texas (0% tax)Yes, but they get you through property tax. The beautiful 1931 house where I lived in the garage apartment from 1967 to 1974 at 8122 Santa Clara Dr. in Dallas was sold to a younger couple in 1973 for $34K when it needed $10K in repairs the old couple who'd lived in it since 1940 could not afford. By 1970 it was $100K and today it's $800K. That $34K in 1973 is worth about $205K today so it's completely out of the range of the reservoir engineer I worked for at Lone Star Gas Co. and probably even the head of the Engineering Department. Taxes are probably $10K a year or more.
Same situation for me.

in the shorter run work around angles allowing them to indirectly tax your property as well.
U-Haul Introduces Armored War Rigs For Californians Trying To Flee State's Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland
CALIFORNIA—To help meet the demand of millions of people desperately trying to escape the dark, ravaged wasteland of California, U-Haul is introducing a new product in its moving van line-up: the War Rig. These weaponized, armored moving vehicles will ensure you and your belongings stay safe during the long and perilous journey out of the state.
"We knew it was time to introduce some more serious vehicles to our fleet," said local U-Haul franchise owner Glax Destroyer, who manages 12 locations in Southern California. "We brought in the War Rig to supplement our completely depleted fleet of moving vans. With everyone leaving in droves, we don't have much left. We're pretty much salvaging old trucks from the junkyard and then adding armor plating and mounted weapons."
Sources confirm that each War Rig will comfortably seat a traditionally-sized California family of one person. They boast a fuel economy of 6 miles per gallon of guzzoline, which the U-Haul location will provide.
"I live! I die! I live again!" cried one patriarch as he led his family through the desert and toward Arizona in one of the new U-Haul War Rigs. "Witness me!"
Mr. Destroyer encourages customers to come early to secure their rigs before his power goes out and everything bursts into flames.

NDrLoR saysIt really depends on how you compare property taxes. That lot size and house square footage here in Sunnyvale would be "worth" $3MM, so figure $32k/year property taxes. If you bought 30 years ago at "only" $700k you'd be paying a mere $12k/year. If you wanted to buy a place here and only pay $12k/year taxes, you'd be getting a 2-bedroom condo that's 40 years old.Taxes are probably $10K a year or more.
Holy crap. I looked up that place on zillow. $12k/year.
Ca exodus is a farce.
Sure people are leaving. But plenty are coming as housing prices show.

We'll see as California's population growth is trending lower for the last few years, even with its economy doing very well. It is projected to only grow from 40 million to 45 million over the next 30 years.

$800K valued house in IL would run you close to $20k/yr in property taxes depending on location
It's like they're wantonly pushing out the people that produce and create the most tax revenue. Like we're not doing enough already fuck faces?
IL is trying to pass a constitutional amendment to allow for a graduated income tax. Marketing it as saying only those over $250k of income will be affected.
Sweet, so when do “white” people get minority privileges, entitlements, and hand-outs?
WookieMan says$800K valued house in IL would run you close to $20k/yr in property taxes depending on location
Yikes! To pay that $20k/yr implies a high income, which also means a high income tax bill.
The Daily Wire, the conservative media company started by Ben Shapiro, Jeremy Boreing and Caleb Robinson, plans to move its headquarters from Los Angeles to Nashville.
Boreing said that the move was being made due to a declining quality of life in the city, including high housing costs and homelessness.
The publisher’s 75 employees based in Los Angeles are being given until Oct. 1 to decide whether to make the move, Boreing said. He said that it looked like about 80% would make the move.
you'd have to have a decent income to qualify for a $600-700k home loan

Concept: California simulator. Close all windows, turn off air conditioning, and maintain a room temperature above 85°. You can open a window if you want, but as punishment you go outside and smoke four cigarettes in a row. Also you light a $20 bill on fire every 5 minutes.
