SunnyvaleCA saysmell saysThe US population is over 5 x larger than Italy's.That's where exponential growth greatly levels the playing field. From day 8 to day 12 (4 days), Italy reported 3x the total infected according to the chart. That's a daily exponential growth rate of antilog(log(3)/4) = 1.316x . So, it'll only take on log(5) / log(1.316) days for the US to grow to 5x larger number of infect. That's 5.86 days.
True but the US hasn't had any growth beyond 25% in the past days, many of those are likely early infections finally showing up in the stats. The quarantines and shutdowns were just enacted a couple day ago, so there's a bit of a lag, so 25% growth is not much compared to Italy's 3x during the ramp up. Also the US is not densely populated like most of Europe, if you enact strong measure on...
People on avg. are much older in Italy, esp. in the northern regions where it rages.

theoakman saysThe us isn't crawling with Chinese tourists all over the place. Not tourists, but ... have you been to silicon valley? Did you know, for example, that United Airlines' biggest corporate customer is Apple? Apple has dozens of employees coming and going to China every day. http://www.frequentbusinesstraveler.com/2019/01/apple-is-united-airylines-largest-customer-annual-spend-is-150-million/
TRUMP TRIED TO FIX EVERYTHING BY REPLACING THE CDC WITH ERIC TRUMP BUT THE LIBBIES STOPPED HIM BECAUSE HATE!
Because the majority of the testing is now being done by public health labs in the States (as it should be).
Think you will need to find another topic to spaz out on IN ALL CAPS!!!

The reaction seems to be different regionally. I just went to the grocery store minutes ago. Pretty typical Thursday afternoon. Shelves fully stocked. No masks or any of that other rubbish. Plenty of TP. Maybe us midwesterners aren't as pussified as some of the coastal folks?

You can buy most of that at Trader Joes. It's more like Costco and Target the get frequented by the preppers.
Where the fuck are they going to get healthcare workers if they close the schools? The workers will have to stay home and watch their kids!
I think the distribution of fatties and smokers is probably most relevant. US is probably fatter, but my guess is that Italy has a higher percentage of smokers, which makes a respiratory illness more dangerous to Italy.
Italy smoking rate for 2016 was 23.70%
According to the CDC, as of 2015, a total of 15.1% of U.S. adults (16.7% of men and 13.6% of women) smoke
I liked the European Union complaining that the USA “didn’t ask permission” to suspend visitors from Europe.
We don’t need your permission you dopes.
