The US population is over 5 x larger than Italy's.
That's where exponential growth greatly levels the playing field. From day 8 to day 12 (4 days), Italy reported 3x the total infected according to the chart. That's a daily exponential growth rate of antilog(log(3)/4) = 1.316x . So, it'll only take on log(5) / log(1.316) days for the US to grow to 5x larger number of infect. That's 5.86 days.


True but the US hasn't had any growth beyond 25% in the past days, many of those are likely early infections finally showing up in the stats. The quarantines and shutdowns were just enacted a couple day ago, so there's a bit of a lag, so 25% growth is not much compared to Italy's 3x during the ramp up. Also th...


That's true but we have enough kits in the bay area now and the cases haven't increased much lately though there are a a few here and there daily. I'd say by now easily 25%-50% of workers in the bay area are workng from home.

Age matters, but I think the distribution of fatties and smokers is probably most relevant. US is probably fatter, but my guess is that Italy has a higher percentage of smokers, which makes a respiratory illness more dangerous to Italy.

Good excuse for you smokers out there to quit. As a former smoker I can tell you the quality of life on the non-smoking side is much better.

It's the illusion that shit is being bought out. The god damn packages of TP at Costco fill the entire fucking cart. You can only store so much of a cheap product in the back room. You sell 10 of them and the shelf is empty in the snap of a finger. Perception is a mother fucker. It does make for some funny memes though.

Being dead serious here. If your kid can't stay home for 8-10 hours and not fuck things up at the age of 7, you're a bad parent (unless they're disabled of course). Sorry.

I feel for those with much younger kids though. There's really no good decision when you have a kid, a job, rent, etc...

Schengen area was banned strictly because they do allow unrestricted visa free travel. Actually makes sense, but there will always be a way to cherry pick facts to put bad optics on Trump. Maybe that is why Trump is allowing that cruise ship to disembark in California, since Trump owns a golf course in that state.

They cancelled Houston rodeo yesterday. A YUUGE hit to local economy as this is non-stop, 2 week-spending bonanza, probably largest in Houston area. Rodeo contestants/vendors are royally pissed off.
